Prayer Runs are a traditional Native American ceremonial practice involving the running of vast distances in prayer as a spiritual discipline and sacrifice to create greater unity and awareness of the issues facing our world.
This year we will be running 420 miles (30 miles a day) for 16 days from the sacred lands of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase Escalante in Southern Utah to the Utah State Capitol and ending at the traditional Native American gathering place of Warm Springs in Salt Lake City.
This prayer run is dedicated to the unity and healing of all of our communities coming together through a communal form of sacrifice in support of issues affecting all of us. Our prayers will be directed to the Creator for all peoples in these times of strife and division, for the protection of Mother Earth and the sacred and public lands we all cherish, and for help in finding and repatriating the remains of our ancestors who are currently being found at the sites of boarding schools here in Utah and across the continent.
On September 19th we will arrive at Washington Square Park at around 2 PM. Local law enforcement will block off State Street for us from that point up to the Capitol. We are inviting all people from the wider community to meet us at the Capitol grounds or at Washington Square to run with us in support of the final leg of our journey.
